On Wednesday 1st April, Wirral will be hosting a Special Education Needs and/or Disability (SEND) event at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton called ‘Your Future, Your Choice’. It will run throughout the day from 11.30am to 7pm.
The event aims to prepare SEND young people and their families as they move from Children’s to Adult services. What to expect? What’s on offer? What are the options? All too often the feedback is that “things just stop” and the services the children have grown up with simply aren’t available to them anymore. Understandably young people need to be made aware of the changes ahead and the range of adult services open to them.
Wirral SEND young people, their parent/carers, the local authority, health services and invaluable third sector organisations, recognise the importance of preparing young people for their journey in adulthood and this event will go some way towards achieving that.
The event is open to all but primarily of benefit for families with young people with SEND between the ages of 13 – 25. It is particularly relevant to students in Y11.
Parents, Carers and young people are working together to deliver an event that both informs and supports. There will be a marketplace for providers and services, a series of workshops, drama performances and guest speakers.
