A fond farewell to Mr Simpson

17th April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Re: Changes to Senior Leadership at Kilgarth

I am writing to explain some changes to the leadership team at Kilgarth that will take effect after the Spring Break.

After a decade of teaching and leading at Kilgarth I feel the time has come for me to seek a new challenge. I have recently accepted the position of Headteacher at Olsen House School in Sefton and will be leaving Kilgarth at Easter.  When I leave, Ms Westlake will step up to the position of Headteacher on a permanent basis and Mr Griffiths to Deputy Headteacher, reprising the very successful leadership arrangements that were in place for my temporary secondment to Emslie Morgan Academy last year.

Kilgarth has given me the happiest memories of my career and I would like to offer my sincere thanks to our pupils and to you for the part you have played in that. Although I will be departing with a heavy heart, I shall take great comfort from the knowledge that the school is in such capable hands. Ms Westlake and Mr Griffiths are exceptionally skilled professionals and led the school to its second consecutive ‘Outstanding’ grade from Ofsted last year. They will be supported by our superb staff team, an excellent Governing Body and benefit from the guidance of
Mr Baker, our Executive Headteacher. Furthermore, and most importantly, Ms Westlake and Mr Griffiths will be supported by you, our parents and carers, as they continue their relentless pursuit of the best possible outcomes for your children and family.

Since I accepted my new job, Kilgarth has been caught up in the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the world. The resulting closure of schools means that I do not have the opportunity to say goodbye to our pupils in person. Please pass on my sincere thanks to them for the memories they have helped me to form and also bid them a fond farewell on my behalf. I would also ask you at this time to follow the advice given by government so that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy.

Please continue to look for information on our website and contact us if you think we can help. I wish you all well.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Simpson
