3D Design Y9 Curriculum Plan

Autumn 1:

·       Bridges (structures) – pupils will learn about structures – scale, shape, strength.

·       Pupils will work independently to design and build a solution to the set brief.

·       Pupils will test their work.

·       Pupils will revisit Health & Safety requirements in the workshop.

 

Assessment:

Formative assessment of portfolio and practical work.

 

Summative assessment.

Autumn 2:

·       Plastics – an introductory project to working and making with plastic.

·       Pupils will learn about appropriate tools, machines and processes that can be used.

·      Pupils will create and test their ideas through model making.

·      Pupils will learn about net shapes.

Assessment:

Formative assessment of portfolio and practical work.

 

Summative assessment.

 

Spring 1:

·      Bugs

·       Pupils will research and create drawings and designs of insects/beetles/bugs

·       Pupils will respond to an external brief.

·       Pupils will learn about using appropriate tools and materials for task.

·       Pupils will test ideas.

Formative assessment of portfolio and practical work.

Spring 2:

·       Bugs

·       Pupils will Learn how to make a mould for the vacuum former from clay

·       Pupils will consider scale and waste.

·       Pupils will test their product , make appropriate changes and evaluate progress.

Summer 1:

·      Storage – pupils will design a small lidded storage box for a specified person, place or object.

·      Pupils will consider scale and waste by making tests/templates.

·       Pupils will test their product and make appropriate changes.

Summer 2:

·      Storage continued

·      Pupils will design imagery for the exterior of their storage.

·      Pupils will use appropriate methods/techniques to apply their designs/imagery.

·      Problem solving – Pupils will be assessed on being able to independently create a solution for a set problem solving task.
